Aloha from the Big Island!

We went to the Big Island during Fall break with our friends the Hughes. We had a magical time!

We had to get up at 1:00 A.m. to make it to our sunrise Kilauea volcano excursion. It was worth it though. We got so close to the erupting volcano in our boat, that we were ducking for cover!
This lava flow is creating more land.

The beautiful sunrise from our boat. We saw flying fish on the way back to shore. One flew all the way over the boat.

Rentz family in eternity pool at our rental house.

The famous wall in Kona where the swimmers dive into the ocean for the Iron Man competition.

Our favorite beach at Mauna Kea. We always came back to this beach, because nothing else compared. It had easy snorkeling access- saw sea turtles all the time. The kids dug a big hole here that they always wanted to come back and work on. Just to the left of those trees in photo, we had our most magical moment of the trip. We rented kayaks and were paddling around when we came upon a huge pod of dolphins- seriously like 100 of them. They were coming to the surface and jumping and spinning out of the water. Of course the under-water camera was sitting safely on the shore! We have mental snapshots that we will have forever!!!
